Francis Boag, ‘September Song’, is the first solo exhibition at Fraser Gallery St Andrews since Lesley Franklin took ownership at the start of May 2024. And, having personally collected Boag works for a long time, she is delighted! In May, Lesley visited Francis on the Ury Estate and was struck by the splendour of the landscape. Such emotional response to landscape is very evident in Francis’s unique depictions of the North East of Scotland. Then, as they sat enjoying lunch at Stonehaven Harbour, she was also struck by the kindness, humour and humility of such a major contemporary artist.
This exhibition showcases the colour and vibrancy of Boag’s works and covers a range of subject matter from the landscapes of the North East of Scotland, to other places he has visited, to portraits inspired by people he has met. We would like to thank Francis for his reflections and for choosing to exhibit at Fraser Gallery.
