Over recent years, Robert MacMillan has developed a reputation as one of Scotland’s foremost figurative painters, reconciling traditional working methods with experimentation. His work is charged with an emotional intensity while demonstrating meticulous technique. Layer upon layer of paint builds to create depth and luminosity, as well as a sense of weight and presence.
A graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone, Robert focuses on single figured portraits which are greatly influenced by the old masters.Shortlisted for the Aspect Painting Prize in 2008, Robert exhibits in a select number of galleries in the UK and in Dublin and has work in a number of private collections.
