Mhairi McGregor, RSW British, b. 1971

Mhairi McGregor was born in Paisley in 1971. She graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1993 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, having studied under Barbara Rae and Jimmy Robertson.

Mhairi has travelled extensively throughout her life and has exhibited at galleries throughout the UK and in Europe, Australia, Canada and the USA. She has exhibited at the Royal Academy in London and at the Royal Scottish Academy.

Mhairi is known for her vibrant use of colour, her layering of paint and her impasto technique. For each painting, Mhairi uses a limited palette and builds the colour through skilled mixing and layering. She is a real perfectionist who makes deliberate, thoughtful choices about composition and colour. She never repaints canvases, preferring instead to start again completely if a work does not reach her high standards. This, of course, means that all McGregor works on show are stunning!
