Joan Gillespie studied at the Duncan Jordanstone College of Art under Alberto Morrocco. She then studied for a year at Edinburgh College of Art under Sir Robin Philipson. For the next seven years she was a graphics and exhibitions designer with the Royal Museums of Scotland, Edinburgh before leaving to paint full time.
Joan is a very collectable artist and exhibits widely in Scotland as well as further afield and was shortlisted the Morrison Portrait Competition at the Royal Scottish Academy. Her work is also held in both private and corporate collections all over the world, including USA, France, Italy, Spain and Australia and closer to home in the City of Edinburgh Art Collection as well as the private collections of Lord Laing, Lord Macfarlane of Bearsden and Lord Booth.
